Summary

With the Companions of the Hall gathered together once again, Drizzt Do'Urden thought he had shed the darkness around him。 But darkness does not easily let go。

Deep in the Demonweb Pits, MISTRESS of Lies, Lady of Shadows, the goddess Lolth screams her scorn。

Heeding her goddess' call, MATRON Mother Quenthel Baenre plots an epic scheme to break Drizzt in her heart and mind, a scheme that will shake Menzoberranzan's Council of Eight to its core。

Drawn back into the drow underworld against his will, ASSASSIN Artemis Entreri curses Drizzt's name, but finds he cannot forget the favors of his erstwhile foe。

Bound to rescue an old friend from a fate worse than death, ROGUE Drizzt has no choice but to lead the newly-reunited Companions into deeper darkness, down into the bowels of Gauntlgrym, down past the undead that haunt its halls, down through a new drow settlement, down into whatever trouble may come。

BlahNothing memorable。 The felt like a filler book at best。 I know it’s transitional but it could at least be interesting…

Lukewarm oatmeal wrapped in nostalgia。 Nothing new here。 Same old - same old paint by numbers plot and Marty Sue characters only made remotely interesting by my teenage history。 i know Forgotten Realms is a DnD setting, but I could almost hear the rolling dice when reading parts of this。

Despite the previous book's plot contrivances, this book clips along at a great pace and tries to call back to previous books -which is both a positive and a negative。The book is definitely fun but it is hardly unique and still feels like it is treading the same path as previous books。That said I feel that this book is a high 3。 Despite the previous book's plot contrivances, this book clips along at a great pace and tries to call back to previous books -which is both a positive and a negative。The book is definitely fun but it is hardly unique and still feels like it is treading the same path as previous books。That said I feel that this book is a high 3。 。。。more

The setup is the Companions of the Hall are back together and they think they might want to eliminate the orcs from the areas, wondering if they ever should have signed the peace agreement but first they need to tidy up old business ~ back to Gauntlgrym to find Thibbledorf Pwent and cure him of his vampirism。But things aren't that easy - Artemis and Dahlia and the rest of their group are having a hard time not getting caught and tortured by the Matron Mother of Menzoberranzan - yup the drow are The setup is the Companions of the Hall are back together and they think they might want to eliminate the orcs from the areas, wondering if they ever should have signed the peace agreement but first they need to tidy up old business ~ back to Gauntlgrym to find Thibbledorf Pwent and cure him of his vampirism。But things aren't that easy - Artemis and Dahlia and the rest of their group are having a hard time not getting caught and tortured by the Matron Mother of Menzoberranzan - yup the drow are back, the politics, backstabbing, fighting for power and of course picking up their old habit of being obsessed with Drizzt, the apostate that he is。This is a standard Salvatore book - great characters, better than average writing, great world。 For me this was a three star book because there was soooo much action, so much fighting and, yes, Salvatore does fight scenes better than anyone, but, you do need to spend some time on character development, plot and I could have used for some more plot and a little less action。 The best parts of the book were the political machinations of Menzoberranzan。 。。。more

I was a good story, but it is actually pretty much the same The Legacy's background。 To anyone who read that trilogy, this book has no surprise, even with the same characters reborn。 If the end of this series confirms The Legacy's reboot, then I can expect that Homecoming is just a reboot of Dark Elf trilogy。 I was a good story, but it is actually pretty much the same The Legacy's background。 To anyone who read that trilogy, this book has no surprise, even with the same characters reborn。 If the end of this series confirms The Legacy's reboot, then I can expect that Homecoming is just a reboot of Dark Elf trilogy。 。。。more

A very interesting and surprising change of the storyline! So as you read this series, as with most series you begin to develop a sense of comfort for the expected storyline。 Well, without giving away to much in this series you must remember that the series is not solely about Dritz。 So keeping that in mind I warn the reader to not get comfortable in thinking you know how this series storyline will travel。 Because unless you're the author you don't and as you continue to read this series you wil A very interesting and surprising change of the storyline! In some ways, this is a continuation of the previous novels, a series with dozens of novels in it。 Still, this book is a little more straightforward than the prior series, with just the drow serving as the bad guys this time。 Of course, with all the disunity amongst the drow, their failure is inevitable, but at least there are many interesting characters along the way。 This book features Icewind Dale, Luskan, Port Llast, Longsaddle, and Gauntlgrym; locations D&D players may visit in their own ad In some ways, this is a continuation of the previous novels, a series with dozens of novels in it。 Still, this book is a little more straightforward than the prior series, with just the drow serving as the bad guys this time。 Of course, with all the disunity amongst the drow, their failure is inevitable, but at least there are many interesting characters along the way。 This book features Icewind Dale, Luskan, Port Llast, Longsaddle, and Gauntlgrym; locations D&D players may visit in their own adventures。 。。。more

I was at least hoping that the monk character was proper dead because, well, fighting with bare hands and feet against hordes of plate armoured baddies always struck me as pretty stupid no matter how badass you are。。。but, no, he was faking it all along。 Makes me think of this line from the original X-Men film:Also, I remember Drizzt's 'Hunter' persona very well from his youth in self-exile in the Underdark when he had virtually gone feral, buuuut there wasn't much, if any, connection to that here, 100 and more years on from that timeframe。 Instead an (admittedly) rad title gets wasted on a book that was more about a series of rescue missions and intrigues than anything else。Still, I've heard nothing but glowing things about books much further on in this series so I will carry on and hope for some truly jaw-dropping happenings before all is said and done。 The last scene definites piques my interest as I'm pretty sure having the body of your psycho ex possessed by your long-dead abusive parent is pretty high on most people's nightmare lists。 。。。more

When I started this book, I found it a little bit tiring because the drow scenes felt like too much of an "echo" of earlier stories。 However, as it progressed it improved and by the end, I was enjoying it as much as prior novels in the series。 It's nice that Salvatore chose to make the reincarnated Regis a more "useful" character - maybe this is in keeping with the new class balance in 5E, and Wulfgar overall is more likable now as well。 There are still a lot of characters to fit into one story, When I started this book, I found it a little bit tiring because the drow scenes felt like too much of an "echo" of earlier stories。 However, as it progressed it improved and by the end, I was enjoying it as much as prior novels in the series。 It's nice that Salvatore chose to make the reincarnated Regis a more "useful" character - maybe this is in keeping with the new class balance in 5E, and Wulfgar overall is more likable now as well。 There are still a lot of characters to fit into one story, but overall if you liked the prior books, you will like this one as well。 。。。more

This had a great beginning I think, but a slower middle-end。 It lost my interest and took me longer to finish until I got to the last 70ish pages, which pulled me back in。 I continue to love the dynamic between Drizzt and Entreri, and continue to question why anyone likes Dahlia。 Also a really intriguing ending!

This was a very enjoyable, solid story。 I feel like the Drow society is the element of the Forgotton Realms D&D world that Salvatore does best。 So those books where they play a part are always a cut above the rest for me。 It almost makes me not twitch each time he says "600 pounds of panther。" He also did a good job of addressing the changes that the Companions of the Hall have gone through with their new lives I thought。 This was a very enjoyable, solid story。 I feel like the Drow society is the element of the Forgotton Realms D&D world that Salvatore does best。 So those books where they play a part are always a cut above the rest for me。 It almost makes me not twitch each time he says "600 pounds of panther。" He also did a good job of addressing the changes that the Companions of the Hall have gone through with their new lives I thought。 。。。more
